Our Commitment to Equality

Embracing Diversity, Fostering Inclusion

At Outwood Grange Academies Trust, we champion a vibrant and exceptional standard of inclusive practice where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. We believe that our diversity is our strength, and we are dedicated to promoting equality and celebrating the unique contributions of all our staff, students, and community members.

Our Commitment

Guided by the Equality Act 2010, we actively work to:

  • Eliminate Discrimination: We strive to break down barriers to learning and/or well-being for students, and create a sense of belonging whereby everyone is treated with fairness, dignity and respect. We work to sustain this over time to ensure a transformational impact on how well our students achieve and thrive across all areas of school life.

  • Advance Equal Opportunities: We strive to create equal access for all, ensuring fairness in every opportunity we offer, regardless of their background or identity.

  • Foster Positive Relationships: We cultivate a culture of understanding, respect, and collaboration among individuals with diverse characteristics and beliefs.

Key Objectives

Education and Awareness: We provide on-going training and resources to staff and governors to ensure they are well-versed in equality legislation and best practice. We also promote cultural understanding and awareness within our school communities.

Addressing Specific Needs: We are committed to closing attainment gaps for all groups of students, with a particular focus on those eligible for Pupil Premium, students with special educational needs and disabilities, children looked after (CLA), and students from minority ethnic groups. We also prioritise mental health awareness and provide appropriate interventions when necessary.

Accessibility: We continuously improve accessibility, making reasonable adjustments across our school sites to ensure that all students, staff, and visitors, including those with disabilities, have full access to all facilities and resources.

Inclusive Curriculum: We use a graduated approach by regularly reviewing and revising our curriculum to ensure it reflects the diversity of our society and promotes tolerance, respect, and understanding. We have established effective strategies and turned our best into normal through the Universal Inclusive Classrooms approach to the environment, resources and pedagogy. This approach is vital for some but beneficial for all.

Inclusion for our students: We believe every student deserves the opportunity to dream big and achieve their best. As a family of schools, we celebrate individuality, champion fairness and create inclusive environments where all students feel confident, respected and inspired to succeed. We are obsessive about attaining the highest standards and enhancing children’s life-chances. By listening to and collaborating with our students, we remove barriers to learning, empower every young person to belong, thrive and transform the lives of all our students.

Monitoring and Evaluation: We actively monitor the progress we make towards achieving our equality objectives and regularly review our policies and practices to ensure they remain effective and relevant.

We stand united against hate or hate crimes of any nature.  We are firmly committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all members of our community.  Our objectives emphasise the importance of celebrating diversity and ensuring that every student, staff member and stakeholder feels safe, valued and respected, regardless of their background or characteristics.

We actively challenge and address discriminatory behaviour and language, promoting awareness and understanding through education and training.  By doing so we aim to cultivate a culture where equality, dignity and respect are upheld and where hate in any form is neither accepted nor ignored.

In line with the Equality Act 2010 and it's inclusion of religion as a Protected Characteristic, and in awareness of the unique nature of such discrimination, Outwood Grange Academies Trust recognises the working definition of antisemitism as outlined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. We acknowledge the complex and changing nature of both contemporary and historical antisemitism, and understand that it can take a range of different forms.

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” IHRA working definition of antisemitism

We educate young people about all forms of hate and discrimination, the dangers posed and the potential impact these can have on individuals and the wider community.
