Family and Community Support
Our Family & Community Strategy drives collaboration that strengthens our entire community. It empowers our schools to sustain relationships, encourage good health, raise outcomes, prevent risk and remove barriers, equipping every family with the knowledge, resources and voice needed to ensure their children grow, thrive and achieve.
Our school is a warm, welcoming place where families and staff work together in the best interests of every child and young person. We are committed to providing a "Core Offer" of support that ensures every family feels connected, respected, and empowered.
Our Support:
Our support is organised into five strands.
-
The school aims to inspire children and young people while supporting their journey at every stage:
Smooth Transitions: Carefully planned transition opportunities are embedded throughout Year 6 and Year 7, along with support for post-16 and post-18 transitions.
Reading at Home: An environment is provided where children and young people learn to love reading, and reading resources are offered for families to use at home.
Adult Skills and Employment: To support adults looking for employment, volunteering opportunities, or further training, the school provides guidance and links with partners who deliver adult education in Maths and English.
-
The physical and emotional health of families is a priority for the school:
Mental Health Support: The school champions good mental health for all children and can connect families with the right services when concerns arise. It also recognises the importance of parental mental health and signposts adults to community support.
Basic Needs: For those requiring help with health or finances, the school connects families with local services that provide practical support.
Emotional Literacy: To help children manage their feelings at home and school, established programs such as 'Zones of Regulation' and ELSA are utilised.
-
The school maintains an open flow of conversation that is accurate, timely, and sensitive:
The Parent Voice: Robust systems are in place for parents and carers to help shape future plans for the school.
SEND Support: The school works closely with parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to ensure they understand the processes and can influence the support their child receives.
Early Years: Strong links are maintained with pre-school services to ensure the school gets to know families as early as possible.
-
The goal is for every child and young person to feel welcome and ready to learn:
Starting School: Every child and young person receives a 1:1 contact or home visit when they join the school, regardless of their year group.
Removing Barriers: The school works compassionately with children, young people, and parents to identify and remove any barriers to school attendance.
Community Presence: The school acts as an active partner in the community and regularly participates in local events.
-
A protective network is provided for all families:
Parenting Support: The school works with the local community to ensure parents can access support locally, provided either directly by the school team or through multi-agency working.
Speech and Language: Strategies and support for children’s speech and language development are provided both in school and for use at home.
Multi-Agency Coordination: For families facing specific challenges, the school works with multi-agency teams to coordinate purposeful support.
Staying Safe: Regular safeguarding messages are shared to help keep children safe in school, at home, and within the community.
