Students shine in four-night run of Oliver Jr
Outwood Academy Haydock was filled with music, energy and applause last week as students took to the stage for a spectacular four-night run of the musical Oliver Jr.
Performed in front of enthusiastic audiences across four evenings, the production showcased the incredible talent, dedication and teamwork of students from across the academy. From powerful vocal performances to confident acting and lively choreography, the cast delivered a memorable interpretation of the much-loved musical.
Based on Charles Dickens’ classic novel Oliver Twist, Oliver Jr tells the story of a young orphan navigating life in Victorian London. Students brought the story to life with standout performances in well-known musical numbers, including Food, Glorious Food, Where Is Love? and Consider Yourself, earning rapturous applause from family, friends and members of the local community in the audience.
The production was the result of months of hard work, rehearsals and collaboration between students and staff. As well as the performers on stage, pupils played a vital role behind the scenes, supporting lighting, sound, stage management and set design.
Phil Abram, principal at Outwood Academy Haydock, said:
“We are incredibly proud of every student involved in this production. Their commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm were evident throughout all four performances, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow on stage.”
Audience members praised the show for its high standard and infectious energy, with many commenting on the impressive level of performance and the clear enjoyment of the students involved.
Productions such as Oliver Jr form an important part of school life at Outwood Academy Haydock, providing students with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity and teamwork while celebrating the arts within the school and wider community.
