Cultures & Traditions
We promote tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures.
Careers, Advice and Guidance
We embed career learning into the curriculum, develop strong links with businesses and above all, offer personal independent age appropriate guidance and support for our students.
Extended Learning
We provide opportunities for students to consolidate, enrich and extend their learning. Students can access on-line learning schemes, take advantage of our Learning Resource Centres, attend after school or in school sessions. It is not always possible to find a quiet area at home to complete work and therefore extended learning is not simply viewed as an out of school activity.
Subject Disciplines
We want our students to learn the ‘grammar’ of each subject respecting the traditions and importance of subject disciplines. We provide a clear narrative of what we teach, why we teach it and how it is taught and assessed so that we know if it is understood. Throughout a young person’s learning there will be increasing specialisation and greater depth.
Literacy & Numeracy
We focus the enhancement of literacy and numeracy. All children require this core knowledge to enable their access and success across both our curriculum and their future.
Interdisciplinary
We encourage clear links between the different aspects of our students’ learning, including opportunities for extended activities which draw different strands of learning together integrating knowledge, skills and understanding across different areas of the curriculum.
Significance
We encourage students to consider what is significant, what should be commemorated, remembered and why. Supporting students to recognise judgements and appreciate values by exploring events such as the Holocaust or celebrating the power of imagination, creativity, discovery and invention.
