Gold accreditation for OGAT teacher

Hannah Tomlinson, Associate Director of Religious Education & Personal Development at Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT), has achieved Gold Teacher Ambassador status after completing the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme.

The training programme brings teachers from across the UK together with members and colleagues working across key roles in Parliament, to empower teachers to inspire active citizenship amongst school students through the lessons they deliver.

Once the training has concluded, teachers return to their schools and use their learnings to enhance the citizenship curriculum, collecting evidence of their activity, which is then submitted to the programme for accreditation. Based on the quality of their subject delivery, teachers will achieve gold, silver or bronze accreditation.

Feedback on the evidence submitted stated ‘Your lessons and assemblies have been really successful, and it’s impressive how you’ve been able to embed teaching about UK Parliament across different year groups through your activities and resources.’

Hannah, who teaches at both Outwood Academy Haydock, St Helens and Outwood Academy Hindley, Wigan, said:

“I took part in the programme as I believe that effective citizenship education can open many opportunities, develop skills and increase political engagement amongst young people. I’ve enjoyed taking the knowledge from my visits to parliament, embedding it into our lessons and sharing it with our student council.”
